Passed away peacefully at home on July 13th 2021, Treasured husband of 54 years to Merrilyne, Loved & Respected father & Father in law to Sally & Warren, John & Donna, Anthony & Cathrine, Proud Pop to Thomas, Sarah, John Samuel, Emma, Angus & Claire. Due to the recent Victorian Covid-19 lockdown limiting the number at a Funeral Service to 10 family members, a private family service will go ahead on Monday July 19th 2021 commencing at 11.00am. A Private Cremation will follow. No Flowers by request donations to the Fiona Elsey Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. For those who cannot attend live streaming of the service will be available, Please go to our website and click on the Live streaming tab to view the service.

  16. I have fond and vivid memories of Garry as the slightly larrikin brother of my more conservative Dad. Without a doubt, the best Uncle a man could have. Always ready to greet you with a smile, a cold drink and slightly exaggerated story. I loved spending Easter at his house, having adventures with our cousins and going to the Stawell Gift. Whilst l have not been in close contact with Garry since leaving Ballarat many years ago, l have very fond memories of him and his friendly smile, sharp wit and engaging conversation. He always expressed a genuine interest in what l was doing and with my military service l had many a story to share. We usually caught up over the many Christmas gatherings over the years when l dropped in to Aunt Norma’s. He epitomised all the quakities of a true Aussie character and will long be rememberd as a bloody good bloke and a bit of a larrikin and we will miss him deeply.   46. An asset to the town and wider community of Stawell. He loved people and was always open to involvement with them. After watching his funeral – a wonderful celebration of his life provided with love and wonderful memories – I realize how sad it is that we could not be there. We have been friends since Primary School at 502. We kept in contact and it was great to hear his news and reports on every possible facet of life in the Stawell community. He was so good to so many people and Stawell and Illawarra will not be the same without him. Merrilyn’s care for him in his latter years was so wonderful and his family’s support was amazing.   78. Watched the live streaming……Under normal times the church would have been filled. The family did an amazing tribute Garry would have been very proud, especially his granddaughter with their memories.
    Garry’s chats seem to stick in your mind i remember my last chat with him.

  79. A very highly valued friend of mine, always ready for a chat when I was back home @ Stawell.
    Very saddened to read of Gary’s passing this morning.
    The posts above express the reasons why we all loved to “have a chat with Gary”
    I moved away from Stawell in 1963, but our friendship was forever.
